Of all the online casino table games, craps is probably one of the least well-known to betting novices. And while the name of this game may sound like a rude word, it’s a game that both novices and experts should get to know better, as it is fun, engaging and can be rewarding.
Here’s what you need to know about the casino game, craps:
What is Craps?
Craps is an exciting, fast-paced, dice game whereby players bet on the outcomes of the roll of a pair of six-sided dice. It's played on a specialised table with various betting options available to players.
How does Craps work?
All players must place their bets before the first roll of the dice. The game starts when one player, known as the “shooter,” throws the dice at the craps table.
These are some of the types of wagers that can be made:
Pass Line Bet
Made on the first roll of the dice (known as the come-out roll), this is an even-money bet and one of the most common bets in craps. If the come-out roll is a 7 or 11, pass line bets win even money. If the come-out roll is a 2, 3, or 12 (known as "craps"), the pass line bets lose. Any other number (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10) becomes the “point” and the point must roll again before a 7 to win.
Establishing a Point
If the come-out roll results in a point, that number becomes the point, and the game enters the point phase. During this phase, the shooter continues rolling the dice until they roll the point number again (in which case, Pass Line bets win), or they roll a 7 (in which case Pass Line bets lose).
Don't Pass Line Bets
This is an even money bet that is the opposite of the pass line bet. Here, if the shooter rolls a 7 or 11, you lose on the “come out” roll, but win on a 2 or 3 (12 is a tie). Once a point is established, you’ll win if a 7 is rolled but lose if the point is thrown.
Come Bets
This bet is made at any time after the first roll when a shooter has a point to make. You’ll lose on a 2, 3 or 12 and win on a 7 or 11. Any other number becomes your “come point” and must be repeated for you to win before a 7 is rolled.
Don't Come Bets
This is the opposite of the Come Bet and can be made any time after the first roll when a shooter has a point to make. You will win if you roll a 2 or 3 roll (12 is a tie), and lose if you roll a 7 or 11. Any other number rolled becomes your “come point” and if repeated, you lose.
